Happy Easter

A Happy Easter to everyone. We hope your break is rejuvenating and restful !

We are looking to recruit more members of staff from both teaching and support staff for help us in our mission to improve staff wellbeing. We meet every half term and our rationale is to ..

Raise the profile of wellbeing and mental health across the school, promote and lead activities which support wellbeing, signpost support for staff, suggest training for staff and middle leaders which will support wellbeing and mental health, provide feedback to SLT via surveys etc and give feedback on new procedures and policies.

Update on this year

To start the year we were able to secure a slot on INSET day for wellbeing which was a first and we received some training from the Mental Health Support Team. In the Autumn term we conducted the first wellbeing survey and gave feedback of the results to SLT identifying priorities for the coming year. Some social events were organised included INSET day events and Christmas party. The wellbeing noticeboard was revamped with more information and details of where to find support such as helplines etc. We listened to feedback and requested that staff break and lunchtimes be respected. We facilitated stress awareness course for middle leaders in addition to some signposting of support for members of staff who have contacted the team.

Reminder: In the event that you or a colleague is struggling with work related stress or another mental health issue or for any other reason home or work related, the best course of action is to first speak to your line manager or SLT above them to access support. Here is a National College Stress Awareness course that takes 1hr 10 mins to complete and is extremely useful for anyone in any role.

Menopause lunch club

The British Menopause Society is launching world menopause day today.  They’re launching ‘Menopause: Continuing the Conversation’ on YouTube at 12:00noon, the programme discusses menopause news stories, misinformation, nutrition, workplace policies and why HRT isn’t for everyone.

To start the conversation here; we are starting an informal Menopause chat group on Tuesday week B in C1 at lunchtime, the first one will be on 1st November. Bring your lunch and enjoy some conversation, support and just company whatever the gender, whatever the age everyone is welcome.

The Wellbeing Team

Welcome back

Welcome back to the new school year everyone!

Just a quick update.

Over the past year the school has achieved Bronze award in the Leeds Beckett mental health schools award. You will see the kite mark displayed on the website and headed paper. Bronze award was by no means easy and we still have more to do but it means we are taking steps in the right direction to safeguard the wellbeing of the whole school community. We continued with free yoga sessions online for staff over the summer holidays. There are new benches in the staff garden for you to enjoy your lunch. We have successfully achieved (allbeit only 45 minutes) the inclusion of staff wellbeing at INSET which is really positive given the amount of stuff that has to be squeezed into these two days.

Keep an eye out in daily notices for Wellbeing JPD in November for ECTs and trainees that all staff are welcome to attend.

Don’t forget to put your stickers in your planners/diaries and refer to them. Email any member of the team if you would like to join the team, comment on wellbeing or get help and support.

Free counselling support available for staff

Employee Assistance Programme

The school has bought into an Employee Assistance Programme which provides free advice and counselling to staff on a completely confidential basis. Counsellors are professionally trained and they have a 24/7 helpline which is 0800 0280199. Please click on the link below for further details. Posters will be put up on the wellbeing noticeboard in the staffroom so the number is always there if you should need it.
